A Year In Review – 2015
During January the Avalon Bay News reviews the previous year.
In April, the Avalon voters went to the polls and cleaned house, not an incumbent or former council member was elected. The new council consisted of: Anni Marshall mayor; and newly elected council members Cinde Macgugan Cassidy and Joe Sampson; and finishing out their last two years of a four-year term are council members Oley Olsen and Richard Hernandez. Pictured above are, left to right: City Attorney Scott Campbell; Chief Administrative Officer Denise Radde; Council member Oley Olsen; Council member Joe Sampson; Mayor Anni Marshall; Council member Richard Hernandez; Council member Cinde Macgugan Cassidy; and City Manager Ben Harvey. Catalina Island children of all ages were happy in April, the Avalon Lions Club gave Haypress playground equipment a facelift. They repaired and painted. The horizontal bars have been replaced with a much stronger frame and repainted. The hand rail to the west slide has been rebuilt with new cement for a safe climb up the stairs. The swing bridge has been rebuilt so the boards will stay flat as someone crosses them. Then they raked the gravel and pulled weeds. Painting in the photo above is Tom Jordhal. Along with a fabulous array of fine art by local and visiting artists, the Catatina Art Fair and Exhibition (CAFE) brought two brand new electric Smart Cars to the exhibition and displayed then on Wrigley Stage. The Smart Car demo was part of the Catalina Art Association’s efforts to celebrate Earth Day and encourage sales of environmentally friendly vehicles. Photo by Drew Mauck
