The Avalon Boys Basketball team is set for their most important games of the year. This week they will play three league games that will ultimately decide their playoff fate for the 2014-2015 season. On Saturday, January 24, Avalon traveled to the San Fernando Valley to play Vaughn High School in their last non-league contest. The Lancers played toe to toe throughout the game with the Lions, but unfortunately came up short in the end, by a score of 58-50.
Once again, the Lancers committed too many turnovers against the pressure man-to-man defense that was applied by Vaughn throughout the game and came up short. This was an excellent basketball game and the Lancers had many players contribute to their quality performance. Leading the way were Danny Jimenez, with 17 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Harrison Hobbs with 12 points, rebounds and two blocked shots. As usual Ernie Gomez was hustling all over the court, scoring 7 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to lead the Lancers. Hopefully, the preseason schedule has prepared Avalon for success in their league competition.
The Lancers play Webb High School at home on Friday night, January 30, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Before Friday’s game we will honor our graduating Senior, Danny Jimenez, in a brief pregame ceremony and we will also have a free-throw shooting contest at halftime between the Rotary Club and the Lions Club. We could really use your support so come on up and cheer on our local high school hoopsters in their quest to make the 2014-2015 C.I.F. Southern Section Playoffs.
