2015 Avalon Lancers Football

Focus is what sums up the Lancers football team this year. Avalon is coming off an undefeated regular season and a league championship from last year, but the focus is on the CIF championship. Commitment and enthusiasm is huge with this team and they are ALL focused on the prize.

The team has been putting in work since their heartbreaking loss to Mojave High School in the CIF semifinals last season. Mojave would go on to win the championship in their following game.

The Lancers are a senior-heavy team, with 12 seniors who’ve lived through the pain of losing in the semifinals the last two seasons. As usual, the Lancers will use a heavy rotation to keep their depth advantage and try to wear down other programs.

Key contributors will include QB/LB Jerod Long, a third-year captain who was Express League Player of the Year and the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2014. Jose Carmen Silva RB/LB was the Express League Defensive Player of the Year last year and the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year as well.

Jason Cisneros is a returning DB/WR all-league player, along with defensive end Harrison Hobbs, who at 6-foot-2 is bigger than many players he lines up against. Cesar Ventura is another four-year starter at safety who is also in the running back rotation.

The combination of experience and hunger has the team excited for the season and the team’s championship prospects.

The team home opener will be Friday, September 4, at Joe Machado Field with kickoff at 5:00 p.m.
