SANTA CATALINA ISLAND, JULY 7, 2016 -The Avalon Golf Cart Parade’s theme “From Sea to Shining Sea: A Maritime History of Catalina Island” sparked a burst of creativity from the float builders, making this year’s 4th of July the most spectacular. The parade had everything from Monks to Clydesdales to the USC Band and a record breaking 75 Golf Cart Floats. It was truly a spectacle to watch. The competition was steep this year, and this year’s Float Winners are listed below. Most Creative: first place went to Catalina Yamaha for their float “40 Rounds”; second place went to Catalina Kid Ventures’ “The Great White Steamer,” and third place went to Santa Catalina Island Company for their “Blanche W.” Most Humorous: first place went to the Comstock Family for their “SS Catalina Bikini,” second place went to the Hanson Family for “Last Minute,” and third place went to the Loney Family for “Gilmore Cottage.” Most Patriotic: first place went to the Seawright Family for their float “Defending Our Coast,” second place went to Catalina Island Medical Center for the float “CIMC Cares,” and third place went to Summer Love Cottage/ Summer Love Cottage.
