Art Lessons and Reading Program Feted

On Saturday, August 15, local artist Porschia Denning wrapped up the series of five summer art lessons funded by the Friends of the Avalon Library to encourage residents to visit the library, make use of the library’s facilities, and check out books on arts and crafts.  About 20 people attended the event, then stayed for the drawings for prizes for the Summer Reading Program.
According to substitute librarian, Anthony Andora, Darlene Schmeckpeper was the adult winner, Emily Rico was the pre-teen winner, and Brendan Beizerman won the drawing in the youth division. Each won an Kindle provided by the Friends of the Avalon Library. Instructions on how to use the Kindle to upload items from the library system are available upon request at the library.
Andora also noted that a Drop-in Device Workshop was provided from August 18-22. Kindles, Nooks, and other devices are easily used with the library and library workers will work with residents at any time to explain how to access materials.
