For months, and months many concerned citizens, most members of CESA, Catalina, Eucalyptus, and Sumner Association, have asked at Planning Commission meetings and at City Council Meetings to have story poles put up for the proposed new 20,000-square-foot Vons market. They finally got their wish last Friday, Vons sent a crew from the mainland to install the poles.
However, the poles did not show the complete height, they only represented the height of the building’s plate, the walls, not the gables, the triangle formed by a sloping roof. So yesterday, Wednesday, February 11, the crew returned and installed three additional poles to show the additional roof height of the proposed building.
Now is the time to check out the story poles. They are a good visual aid for people to determine just what the bulk of the new store would be, as sometimes it’s hard to imagine. They will be in place until the appeal is heard at the City Council meeting. The proposed store was approved by the Planning Commission last November, and CESA filed an appeal on December 3, 2014, in hopes that the City Council will reverse that decision. At this time, the appeal is scheduled to be on the agenda at City Council’s March 17, 2015, meeting.
