On Thursday, September 8, 2016, the Catalina Island Yacht Club (CIYC) Auxiliary presented checks for $1,500 each to three local organizations: Catalina Search and Rescue represented by J.J. Poindexter; The Gordy McLain Fund represented by Avalon Fire Department Chief Mike Krug and L.A. County Fire Captain Dave Black; and Catalina Kids Venture represented by Mayor Anni Marshall. CIYC raises funds for donations by holding annual, in-house fund raising events. An auxiliary committee chaired by Julie Christiansen interviews non-profit charities and makes recommendations for donations to the auxiliary membership. The checks were presented by Sarah Wachtler, auxiliary president, and Lou Earlabaugh, CIYC Commodore.
