Now to 12/31 The History of Catalina Island Exhibition at the Catalina Island Museum – Permanent installation from the island’s discovery some 8,000 years ago to William Wrigley’s purchase of the Island and the rise of Avalon as Hollywood’s favorite vacation spot, Catalina Island has a history that is rich in events and personalities. 10am – 5pm daily. 3/11 Catalina Island Marathon – Coming up on its 40th Anniversary, this “bucket list’ marathon features the exciting and historic marathon course used largely since the first year on the Catalina Island Conservancy’s lands. This includes much of the rugged terrain, spectacular vistas, challenging climbs and special challenges enjoyed by thousands of runners over the years! Plus a 10K, 5K and Kids Run. 3/11 Aero Club Social Fly-In – (2nd Sat. of the month, weather permitting) Fly-in or take the Wildlands Express from the Avalon Plaza to the Airport in the Sky. From 10am to 2pm. Visit with pilots from around the region and view amazing airplanes.

3/11 Windward Beach Cleanup – (2nd Saturday each month) Volunteer in the great outdoors while combing the sand for debris to help keep Catalina’s windward beaches pristine. Clean-up locations (Shark Harbor, Little Harbor, Ben Weston and Cottonwood) rotate throughout the year. Catalina Island Conservancy. 3/14 Friends of the Library Digital Seminar – Learn all the free things you can get from the Avalon Library digitally, all you need is a Library Card and your digital device, Tuesday, March 14, from 7pm to 9pm, a free ipad will be given away to one lucky person.

3/18 Catalina Island Concert Series on Wrigley Plaza Stage – The Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce and Xceptional Music Company are pleased to present this FREE, family friendly Concert Series, next to the Bay on Wrigley Plaza Stage. A Beer & Wine Garden will be available beginning. Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau

3/21 City Council Meeting – The Avalon City Council meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

3/22 Planning Commission – The Planning Commission meets the Wednesday after the second City Council meeting of every month, with the exception of November and December, at 6pm in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

3/26–12/11 Chihuly at the Catalina Island Museum – Dale Chihuly, an American sculptor is globally renowned for his ambitious site-specific architectural installations in public spaces, and in exhibitions presented in museums and gardens worldwide. April 2017

4/1 22nd Annual Conservancy Ball – The black tie event at the Casino includes dinner and dancing with silent and live auctions. The theme this year, Taking Flight, highlights all the island’s feathered friends that call upon the Island during their journey. Advance reservations required Catalina Island Conservancy. 4/7 First Friday’s at the Museum – 6pm-9pm. First Fridays encourages residents and visitors to explore the museum’s galleries and digital theater, enjoy refreshments and snacks in the outdoor plazas and shop in the Museum Store. 4/13 Spring Fest – Food, Music & Games! Join the community on Front Street from 5pm to 9pm for an evening of fun for the whole family. City of Avalon Recreation Department.
